"Refurished venue a dissapointment"

Living locally we were keen to try Tanglewood following its refurbishment. We visited on a Bank Holiday weekend. On entering we looked for a seat and noticed there are a lot of dark recesses and with very few tables near windows. We found one that was and looked at the menu. The first thing that hit us were the prices which are pretty high. Starters around the £6 to £7 mark and mains from £12 to £19. £12.50 for fish and chips is pretty high given they are neighbours to one of the best Fish and Chip restaurants in Yorkshire. Also there is limted choice for Vegetarians with no dishes marked as suitable for Vegetarians. I ordered the sunday lunch (Sirloin) and my partner has a sandwich off the lunch menu. The sandwich came and instead of being on home baked bread as described it came on white sliced supermarket bread and had little filling. The sunday lunch consisted of fatty beef which was served with a scarce amount of gravy both of which were not warm enough. The three small roast potatoes were soft and undercooked. The veg is served in a seperate bowl. We were not happy with either meal and spoke with the Manager. He advised the bread was home baked and we laughed and said that wasnt possible. He took the dishes away and came back apologising. We pressed him on the bread and he said it should have been home baked and wasnt sure why it was not. He didnt charge for either meal and we didnt want replacement meals preferring to go elsewhere. I should mention the decor. Its described as having the charm of a pub and the warmth of a night at the theatre but is simply dark and depressing. The furniture and fabrics resemble a dingy pub from the 1970s that any businessman would want to rip out and refurbish. The tack posters and photos of british light entertainment 'stars' line the walls but they are simply reproduced prints and make the space overly busy. We would not want to return given the lack of warmth, high prices and way below par food. .
