The historic city of York stands majestically, dominating the rolling Yorkshire hills. York is a very attractive city, with beautiful views over the River Ouse and the centre enclosed by medieval walls.
York has a great many attractions from historic buildings such as Cliffords tower and York Minster to more modern attractions like the York Wheel.
The city has evolved over the millennia, through successive periods of occupation from the Romans, the Vikings and the Normans, so today its has a rich and varied history with many relics from the past. Today's its heritage continues to bring fortune to the city as a source of tourism today.
Originally a the large Roman outpost that was situated in York, known as Eboracum to the Romans; many Roman artifacts from the 3rd and 4th centuries have since been found around the area. The city's Viking history is also evident - the Jorvik Viking Centre is a popular visitor attraction.
